The Perfect High Priest

1 For every high priest ^ataken from among men is appointed on behalf of people in ^bthings pertaining to God, in order to ^coffer both gifts and sacrifices ^dfor sins; 2 ^{▼▼Lit being able to
,} ^fhe can deal gently with the ^gignorant and ^hmisguided, since he himself also is ^{▼▼I.e., weak by nature
,} ^jclothed in weakness; 3 and because of it he is obligated to offer sacrifices ^kfor sins for himself, ^las well as for the people. 4 And ^mno one takes the honor for himself, but receives it when he is called by God, just ⁿas Aaron also was.

5 So too Christ ^odid not glorify Himself in becoming a ^phigh priest, but it was He who ^qsaid to Him,

“ ^rYou are My Son,
Today I have fathered You”;
6 just as He also says in another passage,

“ ^sYou are a priest forever
According to ^tthe order of Melchizedek.”
7 In the days of ^{▼▼Lit His flesh}His humanity, ^{▼▼Lit who having offered up
,} ^wHe offered up both prayers and pleas with ^xloud crying and tears to the One ^yable to save Him ^{▼▼Or out of}from death, and He ^{▼▼Lit having been heard}was heard because of His ^abdevout behavior. 8 Although He was ^aca Son, He learned ^adobedience from the things which He suffered. 9 And having been ^aeperfected, He became the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey Him, 10 being designated by God as ^afHigh Priest according to ^agthe order of Melchizedek.

11 Concerning ^{▼▼Lit whom; or which}him we have much to say, and it is difficult to explain, since you have become ^{▼▼Lit sluggish in hearing}poor listeners. 12 For though ^{▼▼Lit because of the time}by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you ^akthe ^{▼▼Lit elements of the beginning
,} ^amelementary principles of the ^anactual words of God, and you have come to need ^aomilk and not solid food. 13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unacquainted with the word of righteousness, for he is an ^apinfant. 14 But solid food is for ^aqthe mature, who because of practice have their senses ^artrained to ^asdistinguish between good and evil.
